mark, Thanks so much for the ideas. The desktop refresh doesn't do anything. The first link you gave me was helpful in that it has eased my mind that this is something legitimate. There is a "thumbtack" on the icon and it can't be deleted, almost as if someone really, really wants us to do something. I thought it might be the Windows Me updates, but I downloaded them this morning and the icon is still there. Also, the comments that it has to do with changing the Windows Me logo is helpful, because that may explain why the logo expands to show pictures when I left-click on it (right-click does nothing). The words that appear when I left click are "Tasks," "Sample," and "Attach." Can you tell me more about how to turn off the display of the startup logo? I'm not sure what you mean about using TweakUI in Control Panel. I've explored everything that I know how to explore and I can't find the logo or anything that looks related to it. I've spent a lot of time in Control Panel/Display and I just can't find anything that seems related. Thanks to you and everyone for your help!!!! }=>------->>>>
