a couple of points:

First, that passage was an excerpt from an article linked to Bobby Beara's message, not my own thoughts. I just cut and paste for illustrative purposes, which I thought was evident by italicizing the content.

Second, the point was that there are many companies turning in negative growth, and while it might be true that people who can in early enough are still in the black, it is also the case the future performance is not guaranteed from past performace. This is especially true of companies that miss the boat on emerging tech, exemplified by companies such as Eastman Kodak, polaroid, DEC, and many more. It is not hard for me to imagine a world without Compaq. In such a scenario, even the shares acquired earlier from thier growth period would become an albatross, though I mostly agree with the analysis you presented.
