The easiest example I have seen in the last few years: When the impeachment passed and went to the Senate the general network spin was that, since the "partisans" couldn't get 67 votes to convict, it was irresponsible to delay the advance of Clinton's socialist agenda for even the few weeks it would take the Senate leadership to "put this behind us". Larry King put it in the simplest terms, challenging Republican guests to explain "If you don't have the votes, why go on?".

Had I heard such spin during Watergate, I'd have fallen right out of my chair. Watergate was about cornering the "Nixon forces" in their "bunker". The Clinton impeachment was about what "they" would try next to waste taxpayers' money and "overturn the last election".

Subtle enough, IMO.
