Could I suggest that you check out edgetrade.com
I use it am am very happy with it..$4-8 per 200shr trade depending on route taken. ISLD is the cheapest and INCA the most expensive. Direct access with instant fills. Only downside is stops aren't available, It's all up to you but for daytrading i don't think it can be beat. Only by the guy at the keyboard.

Ameritrade had a 15 minute delay on market orders yesterday.

Is there any arguement to be made if that scenario played out...

You mean besides "Keep hitting refresh on one screen...and watching each trade go by and praying.. helpless..."
Not much but maybe one more thing: Immediately call (R/T) 1-800-669-3900, just keep hitting O's until customer service rep answers and ask to speak to John Sulivan. I finally gave up on Ameritrade over a year ago, and threatened law suits etc.... (Had one mkt trade fill 4 days later, even though they closed me out long before...) However, I did find John Sulivan to be a sincere help, if anyone over there can help its him, and he will even give you a better fill if justified.
Good luck
