For any remaining silverback fans out there, someone I know who's just tried Windows XP had this to say about it:

"Windows XP should ship fairly soon. It's sooooooo cool. Definitely the most important version of Windows since 95.

"It's the fruition of Microsoft's almost decade-long struggle to get the robustness, reliability etc. of Windows NT and the ease-of-use of Windows 9X in one package.
Windows 9X is dead. There will be no more of them, there is no such team at Microsoft. Windows XP, the next version of Windows 2000, is targeted at both markets. There will be a Windows XP personal (for the 9x market) and a Windows XP professional. There may be other versions, i'm not sure.

"XP basically ports the 9x user experience to the Windows 2000 codebase. But it's better than that. The Windows design & UI team has really outdone themselves on this one--it's much much prettier than Windows 9x was (great coloration), and also much easier to use."

"I think it's going to be big. Much bigger than Office XP, certainly. Between Windows XP and P4/Rambus, I think there will be a substantial upgrade cycle going on."
