kap, the key thing I determined from the new spec sheet is that the 1.7 GHz P4 shows no improvement in power consumption at all, which means a P4-2GHz is impossible without a new stepping that results in power savings.

Could it be that Intel's recent advertising stars are blue in the face from holding their breath? Hope lasts eternal.
