Thanks for posting those country-risk rankings. Very useful, and look pretty accurate to me. Breaking down by category is helpful, as well.

And, yes, you are certainly correct that S. Africa is in flux. But, I believe that those with active operations or in development are going to do well. A few years down the road, companies may have problems with the issue of not enough of a skilled labor pool, due to the AIDS epidemic, but overall, I believe companies currently in S. Africa will weather the mining law changes.

If the merged company focuses on base metals (zinc and copper), it may become more likely TeckGold could be spun off. It is a nice 500,000 ounce gold producer and might be more viable as a standalone listed firm ??
