Don, it took less than 10 minutes to copy the data from your post, paste into 1-2-3, make chart and post it on web site. Normally I add more descriptions.

Semiconductor Sales Fell 7 Pct Worldwide

dailynews.yahoo.com

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Worldwide sales of computer chips in March fell 7 percent from February levels, the Semiconductor Industry Association said on Wednesday, as an oversupply of chips and a weaker economy sent the industry further into a slump.

``Since last November, we have witnessed worldwide semiconductor sales continually decline due to an inventory overhang and macroeconomic factors,'' SIA president George Scalise said in a statement.

Worldwide sales of semiconductors were $14.40 billion in March, off 4.5 percent from $15.07 billion a year ago, SIA reported. February sales were $15.48 billion.

``We continue to believe that the industry will complete the inventory correction in the third quarter and the recovery will commence in the fourth quarter,'' Scalise said.

Semiconductor makers have posted weaker profits in the first quarter with few positive signs in sight. However, an upbeat outlook from some major technology players, including top chip maker Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news), has helped build optimism for a recovery in the second half of the year.

The SIA numbers are a closely watched indicator of semiconductor sales -- albeit a few months old. SIA member companies make up more than 90 percent of U.S.-based semiconductor production.
