Not "giving" anything to them. Just stealing less from them.

BTW, 100 day approval ratings:

Reagan 67%
GW Bush 62%
GHW Bush 57%
Clinton 52%

Dear Scumbria: Its FAR MORE COMPLICATED then that. I dont wish to go into all the details as too much to type but
1. Much of the debt we owe to ourselves so that interest you talk about is merely paying one hand to the other.
2. that portion of the debt not owned by us is owned by Foreign entities. If we pay down that debt we in effect repatriate those monies back over seas.
3. A great deal of the debt, about 2 Billion is sort of monetized into the system and cant really be paid back without incurring substantial additional cost.

However, I agree we ought to continue repaying the debt at a reasonable amount yearly. My fear, and the fear of most conservatives is that if the money is left in Washington it WILL NOT be used to repay debt but rather to enlarge programs. Example last couple of years budget increased 8% a year--THATS AN OUTRAGEOUS INCREASE. GW wants to increase it 4% to bring it down into historical increase patterns and HE is being criticesed by the BIG SPENDERS. jdn
