The reason that it is not a pressing problem in the US is because we have had a massive import of foreign technical talent over the last decade. If the US had to rely on home-grown engineering talent, we would have slipped into technical oblivion some time ago.

I would bet you will find significant differences between those who study the social sciences (so-called) and other disciplines which require more rigorous examinations of the facts. The socialist sciences feature a heavy dose of liberal left pap.
