Hi Sam A.,
I generally don't care much about what a company does or
its earnings, etc. A rather shocking and disturbing admission, I will grant you. TA, the ability to read a chart
is the ability to see, follow (and take advantage) of moves as they occur.
Fundamental information is already incorporated into the picture seen as all the conflicting forces are driving price (and technical indicators)
along recognizable patterns.
"If" I did buy USIX (ggg - only my hairdresser knows for sure), it would not be to marry the stock or the idea, just to take advantage of a price move predicted in the charts.
Learning to trust is harder than acquiring the knowledge.
BTW, I do "cheat" a little. I do check out such factors such as insider selling, short interest, others. USIX has insider buying which influences my thought process a little. Also,
OBV (technical indicator - anyone remembering Da Chief's comment of that being his favorite indicator might have checked this out) shows buying and selling pressure. It helps
confirm whether a move one way or the other is in the offing, even though price may not reflect the signal in the moment.
Without TA, I would not bother risking $ in the stock market.
The odds are stacked against the casual investor as evidenced in the average results of said investor (the average investor loses consistently).
Don't want to be a soapbox figure, just reaffirming what you touched on.
Much better to be one's very own expert with a high level of confidence than blown back and forth with the wind of the ranting and ravings of other experts whether it be CNBC or
someone touting "their" stocks.
Not so much a question of right or wrong as a question of winning or losing.
Best of luck.
