the Indices P/C ratio is 1.125, and th P/C ratio on the Dow is at a horrendous 2.56.

Zeev, aren't high P/C ratios more a sign of a bottom than a top? They show fear, people buying puts, and those puts must be covered by the people writing them.

...I expect that break before the week is out.

On the subjective side, the shape of the April chart looks just like the January one (if you allow for the rate cut bump up) in height and timeframe plus seasonality and 'we are going up' psychology, with a one week local double top just about complete. Unclear if the volume pattern matches January. VXN doesn't look similar unless you have a lot of imagination <g>.

If this pattern holds, it implies 3-4 days sharply lower like 1/31-2/5, about 10% total, say 2160 --> 1950 by week's end.

Personally, I want to see the market's reaction if the April jobs report Friday comes in with a 2nd month of overall contraction (presumably from all the announced layoffs), I understand that's a standard recession marker. And not just because I'm holding cash spiced by ATM QQQ May puts <BG>.

<and the P/C ratio on the Dow is at a horrendous 2.56.>

Zeev,

I am following with interest your theory of smart p/c ratios verses dumb ones.

But as for the Dow P/C ratio, it seems it is always quite high.

At two recent Dow bottoms

3/22 – 2.51

4/4 – 3.52

I am getting my figures from

cboe.com.

Am I missing something?
