I don't think FAB30 was that necessary for AMD's survival. AMD started profiting pretty nicely before FAB30 became operational, even though they were pouring tons of cash into its development at the time. If a pit had opened and FAB30 was sent straight into the Earth's molten core last June, AMD would have still posted a reasonable yearly profit instead of the sequentially record breaking quarters they saw with Dresden.

Now, their future from *this* point would start to look hazy, since they would not have the speed crown as they do in our reality. But they would not have been so much in deep "dudu", as you call it, six months ago.

Er, except that the stock price would be around $5 right now.
