I'm just now getting the bills for some drive-thru surgery we had done. The surgeon only wanted $435 for his trouble. That compares to hospital items such as $138 for "suction tubing" (6' for $1.49, sterilized), $157.96 for a "laparotomy pack" (Baxter's version is $225 for a case of 10 online, less volume discount, $112 for "sod bicarb 50ml syringe",(how many grams of palladium did they spike that Arm & Hammer with???). Not to mention inflated pre-op charges to deal with a bunch of incompetent twits ("they're a self-pay, how do I enter that in the computer?") and padded operating room charges.
I have a call in to the hospital billing people. Anyone know of a tactful way to get them to admit fraud without accusing them of it?

Brice, would you have any breakdown for where each dollar of health expenditure ends up ? I never understood why they work interns so hard. Mike
