JDN,

Here are the spending figures from Clinton's Presidency. Notice that the smallest increase occurred while the Congress was under Democratic control, and the largest under Republican control.

1993 1,409,512 2.01% ALL DEM
1994 1,461,902 3.72% ALL DEM
1995 1,515,837 3.69% ALL DEM
1996 1,560,572 2.95% ALL REP
1997 1,601,282 2.61% ALL REP
1998 1,652,611 3.21% ALL REP
1999 1,703,040 3.05% ALL REP
2000 1,789,562 5.08% ALL REP
Average 3.29%

Now compare vs. the Reagan disaster:

1981 678,249 14.77% REP SENATE/DEM HOUSE
1982 745,755 9.95% REP SENATE/DEM HOUSE
1983 808,385 8.40% REP SENATE/DEM HOUSE
