/FROM PR NEWSWIRE 800-682-9599/ TO BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY EDITORS: GENROCO to Develop & Provide Next Generation Thomson Film Scanner Interface WEITERSTADT, Germany, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- GENROCO, Inc. (OTC: GRCI) announced today that the Company has been contracted to design and manufacture an ultra high speed computer interface for the next generation of digital film scanners being developed by the film imaging subsidiary of global electronics giant, Thomson multimedia, S.A. (Thomson) (NYSE: TMS). Scanning speeds at 2K resolution are currently limited to approximately 5 frames per second by HIPPI ("High Performance Parallel Interface"), the 100 megabyte per second physical connection used to transport the data. The new interface from GENROCO will be up to 5 times faster, which will bring the process close to real time data transfer speeds in the very near future. Digital scanning makes it possible to preserve the resolution and format independent properties of a film, by transferring the image into an electronic master copy of the original which can be used to generate the desired distribution formats needed for broadcast delivery, special effects insertions, etc. The GENROCO interface is being designed to be available not only on future systems, but also as a retrofit option for existing users. In addition, Thomson expects to employ high performance switches and routers from GENROCO in digital film studios.
