Dale: Is 20% of total units a major foundry deal?

Yes, that would qualify (imho, anyway).

Jerry definitely hinted that, starting as early as sometime in 2002, AMD would be using foundry services (probably Pacific rim), and probably ramp foundry units to 20% of their total by the end of 2003.

That's not what I read into his comments:

Q: "Obviously over the next few quarters, you still have to fill out the Dresden facility. You've indicated that you're gonna to roll in Flash into Fab25 next year&#133 what happens in kind of the '02 '03 timeframe... it seems like we need to sort of see a roadmap for a next facility or plans as such."

A: "Good question&#133 Turns out we actually believe we have a capacity plan in place with our existing facilities and arrangements to take us through at least 2003, which means we expect to continue to reap the harvest of the investments we've made over the next several years. In the 2004 2005 timeframe based on market conditions, we expect we'll need additional capacity and we're exploring a number of alternatives which might include a partner and would certainly include 300mm.. that is larger wafers... but for the moment, the incredibly innovative designs, which allows us to have such small die sizes, coupled with our leading edge process technology enables us to be much more productive than one would normally expect and generate substantially more volume and revenue from existing facilities, so we think we're in good shape through 2003... and 2004 2005 depending upon the recovery of the industry we'll have additional facilities and we'll be announcing those plans when appropriate."
