<<How did the parent react? I would rip the principal a new asshole if he tried to tell me something like that.>>

Ya, right. My friend grew up poor. His father was a fireman who died young. He did his time in Nam to get the money to go to college. Got a PHD in Botany. Hiked the whole Blue Ridge Mountain Chain one year. Tough guy.

He got up to leave rather than being scolded, and was told if he didn't sit through the lecture his straight A son would be expelled. A total humiliation of a man trying to do something right. Screw the NEA.

Here's another since you are an engineer of types.

My Cousin is a highway engineer, has been for 30 years. He taught a class of 4 year, degreed engineers, dudes who build bridges. He popped a quiz at the end of the 2 days. These "engineers" couldn't add, subtract, multiply or divide without calculators. People who's lives revolve around numbers can't add? Same people who built a road and a bridge..... and missed connecting by 4' to the side. France may turn out better engineers if the roads get near the bridges.
