It's less about reporting facts pertinent to serious investments than it is to perpetuating a financial pachinko machine, where you just bounce around the numbers till it drops in the right hole. Financial pachinko machine! I like that description. They would do even better though finding the right holes if they added a few flippers to the spin machine..... <g> As my old friend Jim Miller from the Classic Prodigy days used to say: Wall Street has become the great casino, except in real casinos, you tend to get much better odds.
