There was certainly no need for the Challenger to blow up. Likewise, Concorde suffered 30 years of no engineering support, and the fatal flaw was known a dozen years before the catastrophe last year.

I know a man without an 8th grade diploma who wrote a book and lots of magazine articles. In addition, he is often acknowledged as THE expert in several fields, and was acknowledged by Norman McClean in two of his books, "A River Runs Through It" and "Young Men and Fire."

Intellect is required, not a degree. Hooray for your Dad.
