Tom, The funny thing is, I recognized the guy's face and name but can't remember ever having met him. Maybe he was on t.v. or something. Or, more likely, I knew him back when he was working in some other capacity. Or maybe I am having a visit from my German friend, Al Seimer. <g> Many hedge fund managers avoid the herd. The problem with them, and the same is true with mutual funds, but more severe for hedge funds, is that everyone buys last year's winner and that is almost always a mistake. You rarely see the same winner twice at the top of these lists.
