How many babies that were born are the fault of MT and had nothing to do with the mothers and/or making choices for which they are responsible?

I'm not one to hold MT responsible for the birth of babies, though I think her refusal to acknowledge the causes of the conditions she sought to alleviate was at best evidence of primitive ignorance. But blaming illiterate, poor, and downtrodden women for not making responsible choices falls one step below blaming MT, in my book. Do you have any idea of the situations third world women face?

These women need help. They need help in gaining access to the knowledge and materials they need to control their own reproduction. They need help in gaining the confidence and legal protection they need to stand up to men who won't take "no" for an answer. Those who are in a position to give such help, or to advocate effectively for it, but who refuse to do so for reasons of ideology deserve no respect, in my opinion at least. Those who actively attempt to prevent women from getting this help are contemptible.

I know of many priests and nuns in developing countries who, though they cannot go against the church on these issues, make a noticeable point of making no statement and taking no action to support the stand of the church. This is thinking belief, and is deserving of some respect. Unthinking faith-based acceptance of a position in the face of overwhelming evidence that a position is doing great harm deserves no respect.

The best I can say for MT is that she was one step more real than the ditzy dilettante Diana.
