>The design may have slipped some, making a non-SOI Clawhammer too late to be useful. Why expend the effort to make a chip using bulk-Si when SOI will be ready 3 months later?<

I think that the biggest clue is the addition of Barton to the roadmap. This would seem to indicate that AMD is sufficiently impressed with the IBM SOI process to convert Fab30 entirely over to SOI by the end of 2002.

Petz,

I think hammer design is VERY VERY late.

Originally they were going to add 5% to Athlon die.

And then slap 2 on a chip.

And add LDT.

And chips should have shown up in 2H 2001 at latest.

Now they are WAY late.

Chip sizes are HUGE so they have to wait for 0.13.

Reminds me of Palomino's.

WAY late and running out of excuses.

regards,

Kash
