My experience with foundry fabs has been with TSMC - and they can be VERY RESPONSIVE - with process development and engineering assistance and fairly fast throughput.

The one real drawback is the performance of their processes - they are not at the bleeding edge where Intel and AMD live - but they do provide good density and yields.

They also spread their development costs among a broad section of customers - so their prices (per wafer) are quite reasonable.
