The consumption of copper has climbed for a variety of reasons. There was a couple of write ups on why the consumption has climbed. The London Metal Exchange or Kitco has the numbers , threads , articles that show where it is going. Computers , hand held devices , and the increase in telephone traffic are a few of the reasons sited for the increased use of copper.
As to NT being only fiber optics that is news to me. They own part of ELAS which I think does alot of copper stuff. Copper Mountain produces alot of the same type equipment and consume a bit of the stuff as well.
About three months back I did about half a days DD on copper futures and consumption. No doupt a few more hours would help.
