the TCP/IP ethernet adapter and the cable modem are worth copying.

sometimes the multiple entries seem to build up. after you've copied the settings, you can actually delete these entries and reboot and they will regenerate. but they will come back with default settings and that's why you need yours. [i am at this point not advising you, or anyone to delete these component entries. i'm just sharing what i have done before while messing around.]

good luck

:)

e,

"(BTW, re firewalls, I have a Norton Personal Firewall in the box here, a gift, that i never installed. Maybe I should do that in the new computer?)"

zonealarm is free and it configures relatively easy, plus it is a terrific product. did you get the za links i posted for you from zdnet?

norton personal firewall is beginning to win over many former critics. i run it and think it's great. but it's more complex than za, that is, it doesn't install as easily, it's tougher to configure, and you have to maintain it (via updates), though this last is also a plus, as far as i'm concerned.

i'd say you should not install it unless you willing to devote time and energy to understanding the program. and remember, when we elect to go through the Learning Curve Drive-Thru, there's always someone there to ask, "would you like headaches with that?"

:)
