NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Micron Technology Inc.'s (MU) inventory of
personal-computer memory continues to fall, said David Parker, manager of the
company's investor relations.
At the Merrill Lynch Hardware Technology Conference here, Parker said "true
demand" from customers is allowing Micron to work down its inventory of dynamic
random access memory, or DRAM.
He said Micron is "cautiously optimistic," although spring isn't typically a
strong season for DRAM demand.
While inventory of PC memory is coming down, Parker said Micron continues to
have a "fair amount" of inventory of memory for uses other than PCs. Inventory
of those products is "flat to up," he said.
He reiterated that Micron is planning to spend $2 billion on capital
investment this fiscal year. At the end of the company's fiscal third quarter,
over half of its wafer production will use the .15 manufacturing process, he
said. Micron will move to the .13 manufacturing process by the second half of
this calendar year, he added.
