as mentioned, 90% of the silver scrap reclaimed every year DOES in fact come from the photographic sector. as to why the deficit didn't lead to higher prices already: leasing is the answer. silver is now the most shorted commodity ever...some 2-3 billion oz. are in effect short via silver lending. of course this silver has long since been consumed - similar to the gold loans, the silver loans can never be paid back, at least not in the form of metal.
