Not quite right. You posted something to show me one I had forgotten. '86 was just a completion of the Reagan project, trading a further decline in rates for a closing of loopholes. '81 (or rather, fiscal '82) was the initial rate reduction, so I am not sure what you are referring to. There was an increase in FICA, and at least one increase in taxes due to panic (I guess that was '84). But the overall trend was tax reduction, and the cornerstone of supply side thinking was rate reduction. Plus, the one link I recall was not very informative in judging the importance of the hike.
