By my calculations from the newspaper reports recently here in Austin, this one brings, inside of two months, tech layoffs in Central TX to about 15,000.

The population here, BTW, is around 750K, I believe. Can track down actual 'Chamber/Comm' figures, but my point is that these tech 'hits' are significant in this area where so many came for work, obviously, during the boom.

At the same time, new tax notices arrived this week. The house I sold is now going to be taxed at a 'value' $70K over last year.

Mortgage payment would have increased $100/month. Had I not sold. "Chump change," some SI Austinites who I know consider ... which is fine and dandy, I suppose, assuming their sources of income won't disappear because they as well earn income working in tech.

Will take a year or more for the 'market value' to catch up to the tax office, okay?

WOW.

Just 'porchin' from Austin, TX tonight ...
