***OT*** Vietnam History***

Lots of good reading in this area for history buffs.

"Fire in the Lake" is about the most comprehensive book concerning Vietnam History

"A Bright Shining Lie" is also good as well as "The Best and the Brightest."

Post other recommended reading material

Can of worms it is. Maybe we just need to get it out one more time before we let it all RIP.

Obviously we could have won but the war could have escalated into a global conflict so we play by rules that limited what we could do. If we had bombed them back to the stone age as Curtis LeMay advocated, would we really have won. Look at the world today. What would be different? And i suspect a victorious South Vietnam would have progressed not that much faster to democracy than the North has. Oh well. At least the debate among us all about this subject has been extremely civil--a sign that the divisions have healed. I never thought they would. Next should be the end of racism in America and a dialogue like this between the races.

Last OT re: Vietnam

Ron,
There has been a certain sadness in every post regarding Vietnam. The differences of opinion have been negligible. There is no stridency left in any of us. Bob Kerrey's sad demeanor is reflective of this. The wound may have finally healed but it has left an ugly scar. Mike
