Re:I sold my AMD at $28 when Intel cut their P4 prices and I thought that a price war was
inevitable.

fp,

I sold all my AMD @ $28.10. But I caved in the last two days. Back in at $32.00 & $32.80.

I won't leave home without a $32.40 stop in place just in case we break out to the down side.

re: For a change, the street is buying what Jerry has to say
His affirmation of the Street's guidance for Q2 of 0.20 to 0.32 was astounding, given the price war Intel is waging.
When Mike Magee first broke the story of $200 1.4 GHz P4's, I said it would mean only 0.10 EPS for AMD and an operating loss, but probably a few pennies non-GAAP profit for Intel.

I guess the quantity of P4's and higher infrastructure costs are not enough to affect AMD sales as much as I thought. ASP may only drop $5, rather than $10 and quantity may stay flat --3.7M Durons and 3.6M Athlons.

The flat price curve of AMD is encouraging purchase of the top two speed grades for both Athlon and Duron. That makes the Duron ASP about $50 and the Athlon ASP about $120. Flash must not be as bad as kash has been telling us. Sanders said it would be "flat" for the year -- much better than I thought.

As for Intel, they will take a huge charge against earnings this quarter. They'll throw all kinds of operating expenses into that "one time charge," take 0.10 capital gains and beat the street estimates ($0.11) if you ignore the accounting charge.

re:A good chunk of the longs here sold their positions ... another bunch went short.
It is strange how it all works. I have sold 20% of mine at the same time at under 29 because I was afraid that "doom and gloom" (as a overreaction to delays) would drag the price down.
