Zuma Networks Completes Successful Stress Tests For The LightReef(TM) Z16 With
Spirent

- High Bandwidth, High Port Density, and Flow Engine Tests of Z16 Using
SmartBits(R) Products Validate Zuma Performance Metrics -

WEST HILLS, Calif. and CALABASAS, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Zuma
Networks and Spirent Communications SmartBits Division, today announced the
successful completion of a series of stress tests of the LightReef Z16
platform using the SmartBits performance analysis system. The tests were
conducted on site at Spirent's SmartLab in Calabasas, CA., and were supervised
by development and testing engineers from both companies. The purpose of the
testing was to measure the performance of the Z16 in Ethernet and Fast
Ethernet high bandwidth and high port density configurations.

Three tests were run over the course of the week:

-- A 496 port peer-to-peer (non-meshed) test of Zuma's Z16 connected to
eight SmartBits' SMB-6000 chassises. Zuma achieved 100 percent line
rate performance at minimum (64 byte) and maximum (1518 byte) packet
on all ports.
-- A fully meshed test of Z16 to SmartBits using 496 10/100 Mbps ports.
The traffic distribution consisted of 245,520 individual streams, each
one uniquely tracked by the SmartBits. Zuma correctly forwarded
68 and 1518 byte frames at 100 percent load with zero loss. The
64 byte frames achieved a forwarding rate of 99.97% of line rate on
all 496 ports.
-- A Layer 2 flow engine/policing/priority test. The Z16, configured with
495 ports to one destination, was given one port with the highest
priority. The results showed that the single high priority port
always received 99 - 99.8 percent of the available bandwidth.

"We are extremely pleased with the performance of the Z16," stated Todd
Rope, President of Zuma Networks. "This further validates our metrics in high
bandwidth and high port density line rate performance. It also demonstrates
that our flow engine technology is completely effective in the most demanding
circumstances. Service providers need to be sure that the line rate claims of
next generation platforms are real, and that the addition of value add
functionality for high bandwidth layer 2/3/4 switching (such as Zuma's flow
based policing) also performs at line rates."
"We have a long history at Spirent of working closely and effectively with
the core development team from Zuma Networks (and NBase) to enhance the state-
of-the-art in validation and stress testing of Gigabit systems," said John
Lenko, Director of Professional Services for the SmartBits Division of Spirent
Communications. "The LightReef Z16 is the first product to complete a 496
port line rate full mesh test in our performance lab."
