excerpted from The Rigler Report....

"Vargas will re-warm himself to the prize ring this Saturday against Wilfredo Rivera. Mr. Rivera was last seen in the national spotlight, against Shane Mosley. That fight was "Sugar's" first as a welterweight. Wilfredo gave a great show, but was finally chopped down by Mosley in the 10th and final round. Another of Rivera's losses came to De La Hoya.

So, we know that Vargas didn't choose a total softy for his comeback. I dig that. Rivera is north of his prime weight and several clicks past his peak, but he's a legit prizefighter, who will do a great job.

The question that will be partially answered this Saturday (and I say partially because it takes two-three fights to know for sure) is whether or not the war with Trinidad gave Vargas strength or sapped a little life from him.

It will depend on how hard Vargas comes in after Rivera, if Vargas enters the fight with something to prove, then we got something - if not, we got a problem.

I see "El Feroz" doing what Reid won't, and that's becoming world champion again. I think Vargas recovers, and I think he fights De La Hoya. Way too early to determine who wins that contest, but the bottom line is that Fernando Vargas' future is still very bright."
