In my experience, those that think about the matter at all tend to idealize the East, and compare Western religion unfavorably to it. That may be to a large extent a function of our level of familiarity. For those not predisposed to have warm and fuzzy feelings about religion, those about which we know the least are the most palatable. The closer you get, the less attractive they all are. Karen

The East is so many different things I don't see how one could possibly generalize. The people I socialize with do not do that. But then they are all very very careful not to stereotype. That's probably why they are my friends and I am theirs.

In my experience, those that think about the matter at all tend to idealize the East, It might just be that they continue to condescend and depict them as "Godless" and spiritually lost ...or refer to their temple dancers as whores , and their most sacred symbols as "abominations" . newadvent.org Have you ever seen the beauty and energy shine from the spirit of the Bharat Natyam Dancers of Saivite Hinduism , Neo ? Did they strike you as "whores" doing lewd , obscene or lascivious gestures ? No . It is a beautiful artform done with in a very wonderfully exquisite , graceful, & energetic spirit of joyous devotion. A cultural gift to be inspiring to all humanity. You are well traveled and have admired many things of the east . Tell me why would anyone want to idealize a religion that has as it's "soul" purpose the endless rant of "we have God on our side" , yet cannot recognize a pure spiritual act if they saw one ? What is more sinister than continuation of spreading such evil lies and trash propaganda to this day , and try to keep up any sense of credibility of your own ? Could they recognize anything that remotely resembled the "spiritual" outside of their own sphere if it fell on their heads in broad daylight? I doubt it Neo, for God almighty bestowed upon them the right to Judge. It isn't In God We Trust , but ----->" In God We Thrust upon you ", while we hide & clean up our own messes afterwords. Cover of Newsweek magazine april issue Neo , finds millions of educated and young and old Americans are taking up the practice Yoga . This months issue of Time we find science delving seriously into the physio-chemical aspects of religious experience and we may find that it is real , and universal , not the domain of these rigid blind-faith fanatics. Is it about bashing or degrading the poor Christians Neo ? In the name of anything divine or called Truth Neo , what belief had more access to center stage , and was able to ride on the backs and riches of so many nations and slavery than did Christianity? newadvent.org What is written of Hinduism and Buddhism in the above Catholic website is an abomination Neo. With the full intent to degrade and cause fear. But there is that spirit of truth in man , inherent in the reality of things , that always seems to win out in the end.<G> Perhaps the Mother Church served a purpose once.
