the BoE is my source. the next official announcement w.r.t. the auction is due on May 8. the May 15 date was contained in the press release discussing the result of the last auction.
interestingly, it's now only 20 tons per auction, instead of 25. i smell an attempt to drag the whole thing out for as long as possible...i've never been able to convince myself of the innocence of the process. too many fishy 'coincidences' surrounding it, and not enough by way of rational explanation for the whole affair.

btw, Howe mentions an utterance by a BoE official in his law suit, to the effect that they were forced to do this to help save carry trade participants from impending oblivion. scandalous in the extreme if true.
