I was watching the Oaks coverage on ESPN this afternoon, and someone remarked that 4 of the last 6 winners of the Derby have come from posts 14-16. If Point Given is going to do it from 17, he certainly has the right rider. Stevens won on Thunder Gulch from PP16 and paid $50. A couple of my track buds were very high on TG, despite the post. They thought his Blue Grass didn't mean he topped in Florida (as I did), but rather that he just threw in a bad one. They did everything to convince me short of making a wager for me. But when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. So I just watched them celebrate and then endured their abuse for a while.

From what I saw today at Churchill, I've lowered Balto Star's chances a whole lot -- looks like a closer's track. But if he's a freak, he's a freak, although 6-1 odds (real time odds this afternoon) are not that appealing. I have no real insight, and no insight, no bet.
