** OT**In fact, a comprehensive review of 64,248 ballots in all 67 Florida counties

That was a recount of just some of the protested ballots.Ballots that were rejected outright were not re-examined.

It all depends on how extensive the recount is. The more extensive the recount the better Gore came out.

Can Bush hide from the fact that 700,000 more Americans voted for Gore than did for him? Do you really believe that the majority of Americans are satisfied that George stole it.

<<It's amazing how some on the left think if they repeat something enough that it becomes the truth. Did you not hear that the leading news agencies did a recount of all the counties in Florida and that Bush still won??>>

On the left? I suppose the vast majority of folks who created the popular vote victory for Gore would hardly consider themselves '...on the left'!.

In any event, the important line from the article was, 'It would also require that ballots in extremely close elections be recounted by hand — the very practice that Florida election officials and the Bush campaign had opposed so fiercely last year in their battle with Democrats...' which would strongly suggest that the right, as represented by James Baker, was inventing baseless reasons, on the fly, to avoid a recount. Baker (and his rep. cronies) were scared witless of the result of a recount.

BTW, the article noted James Baker 'could not be reached for comment' on the Florida voting reforms.

Surprise, surprise.
