"A light earthquake, preliminary magnitude 4.4, occurred in central Arkansas at 11:42 CDT (0442 GMT Friday)," said Diane Noserale of the USGS. "We believe that thunderous bass notes delivered at the music venue Chester's in Fayetteville was the true cause of the quake. Steve Kimock Band was in the middle night of a three night run and bassist Bobby Vega began slapping his bass relentlessly during the Arkansas classic 'Hillbillies on PCP'. People outside the venue didn't know how to react as the reverberations quickly spread throughout the state." Noserale said. "The earthquake was felt widely in central Arkansas across 15 counties. USGS has received reports of items knocked off of shelves," she said. "Every time that band comes to town, things get shaken up more and more, and apparently the levy just broke tonight...there is one more night of music tonight, so we have secured all the valuables in preparation for aftershocks" commented a concerned neighbor William Green. "It apparently covered a pretty fair amount of territory, but, as yet, we have not confirmed any damage," said Bob Johnson of the state Office of Emergency Management. "We have had reports of some minor glass breakage, but no confirmation yet of that," he said. Johnson told Reuters the quake was felt as far northwest as the area near the borders with Missouri and Oklahoma and as far south as Pine Bluff, about 100 miles (160 kms) north of the border with Mississippi.
