Of course, if they want to cut off somebody's air supply by giving away for free what had been a saleable product, that's different.

Damn it, I should have thought of that argument. Of course. In the utterly free market that Microsoft demands so that it can exercise complete market control, unfettered by pesky antitrust annoyances and legal trivialities, Microsoft would have to stop trying to appeal to the law to crush strategic threats like AOL Instant Messaging, international software pirates, and now those Open Source Communists.
