Is today the Day Raging Bull died?

For many people -- the good, the bad, the ugly -- keeping as anonymous as possible is of the utmost importance. In such an environment, all that really mattered was your screen name. Today, Raging Bull essentially tossed both of these things to the wind. Not only are they now forcing you to join the Lycos network so they can track you via cookies wherever you go and spam you accordingly, but they also are now requiring people to change their user names in the event their RB screen name is already in use by another Lycos network user.

Ouch.

=====

Beginning May 4, Raging Bull is updating its login and registration process to further the site’s integration into the Lycos Network. The update will allow us to provide you with seamless access to Quote.com financial information services including real-time quotes and streaming LiveCharts, as well as better access to other Lycos Network sites and services.

Following is an overview of what you can expect during the change. We apologize for any inconvenience, but hope you’ll agree that the added functionality will provide a richer user experience for Raging Bull users.

You may need to change your username

As you might imagine, we are working with very large lists of members’ usernames. There may be some duplication among usernames, in which case we will require some users to choose new usernames. A small set of users will be required to change their usernames because they include characters like $, % or *, that the new system cannot accommodate.

If you are among those users, you will be prompted to change your username when you first login to the new system. Don’t worry, when you change your username we will update all of your posts, your profile and any other user information on the site to reflect your new username. This may take several hours to completely finish and there may be a period when you see some of your posts on the site with your old name and some with your new name. We estimate that all information should be updated within five hours of changing your name.

If you don’t have to change your username, you may still notice other usernames changing on the site. If you have membermarked or ignored a member whose name is changing, your membermarks and ignores will be updated automatically to reflect the new usernames.

You may need to change your password

The new database can only accommodate passwords up to 8 characters long. If your password is more than eight characters, just use the first eight characters and you’ll be all set. The database also limits the characters that can be used in passwords. If your password includes symbols, like *, $ or ^, you will be asked to choose a new password when you first login to the new system.

You may be asked for additional information the first time you login

In order to keep accurate and updated information regarding our members, we may request that you fill in additional data fields that might be outdated or inaccurate in our database. As always, your privacy is of utmost importance to us. Please see our Privacy Policy if you have concerns about the information you provide.

New login page design

You will notice a new page design when you login and access your account management tools. Rest assured, the changes are minimal and the new page will work the same as the page you’re used to using.

You will have increased account management functionality

This includes the ability to access and update your newsletter subscription status, your password and your email address.

Login may experience temporary delays during changeover

There may be brief periods when you will not be able to login to your account between close of market May 4 and the end of day May 5. Should login be unavailable, please try back in a few minutes, as we expect that these outages will last no longer than 10 minutes.

New accounts will be accepted beginning Sunday evening

We will not be able to accept new accounts beginning after 4 p.m. EST on May 4. Registration should be available again by Sunday evening at the latest. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience.

We appreciate your patience during the transition. Please email registration@ragingbull.com for assistance if you have any additional questions or run into problems logging in or registering.

Have a great weekend,
The Raging Bull Team
