Great article. His military background makes it harder for him that for folks like me to accept what we did and didnt do during that period. I can't buy his conclusion however. If our leaders had listened to Pay Conroy then, instead of the stupid generals, hundreds of thousands would not have died on both sides and even his buddy might have been saved from his agony. He is being too harsh on himself. The problem was that the anti-war folks didnt succeed in time AND/OR that RFK was killed before he won the 1968 election. The most important thing he said was the greatness of the US is that folks are allowed to dissent even during the war. And that largely was the case even during Vietnam. Mike
