That was Deception Pass you went over. I don't know whether the bridge has any name other than the Deception Pass bridge, may be named for some politician but not called that locally. It connects Fidalgo Island (which is an island in name only since only a narrow channel separates it from the mainland, sort of like crossing a river) with Whidbey Island, which is a true island and the second largest island, after Long Island, in the U.S.

Yes, it is a spectacular bridge -- and also quite unnerving to drive! Built long ago when cars and trucks were smaller and slower than they are now. But would be way too expensive to rebuild.

Here's a website about the pass and the State Park on it.

The pass is deceptively calm looking(hence probably it's name) but it is notoriously dangerous when the tide is running. Every year we lose kayakers and skin divers there who think the warnings are just for wussies.
