CB--

Within the past few weeks I spoke with someone on the budget committee about the tax cut. I briefly outlined my concerns re: fiscal and monetary policy. Some of this we was aware of; some he he was not. He asked my to outline my concerns in writing with supporting documentation which I have.

From our discussion I believe he's aware that any tax cut, big or small, isn't going to fuel the economy. It is more likely going into gas tanks and energy bills going forward. We discussed skyrocketing consumer debt and plummeting savings levels.

He seemed particularly concerned when I ticked off the states that had gone from budget surplus to projected deficit seemingly overnight. He was aware of a couple that I mentioned. The others were news to him. Could it happen at the federal level? Of course. In a heartbeat. Some of them know this.

The opposition will fight tooth and nail to keep this cut within reason. They know the revenue projections going forward to support the tax cut are fantasy based. He and others think the process thus far has been nothing short of insane. They were given a tax cut plan before they ever say a budget draft...this is about as backasswards as it gets...a process detail lost on almost everyone except for committee members and a few writers who made note of it early on.

I told him maybe the best strategy was to let the little idiot have his big front loaded tax cut, give things a year or two to play out and then watch him disintegrate when he has to take it back. I asked him if the phrase, "No new taxes." rang a bell.

Be careful what you wish for.
