You do realize, Tony, that IBM wouldn't have used the 8088 without a second source? There's plenty of blame to go around for the x86 architecture, putting it all on the brilliant foresight of Intel is silly.

tony,

Intel was on its last legs as a semiconductor company until

IBM chose Intel for PC.

One PRECONDITION was a SECOND SOURCE as well as IBM manufacturing rights.

Motorola didn;t go along with that 68000 lost design in.

Once Intel won the x 86 they lived up to the agreement for a while.

And then screwed AMD.

Intel was the ingrate.

They had a deal and chose not to live up to it.

They have profited handsomely from not living up to the deal.

This is basic reason for bad feeling between AMD/Intel.

Prior to that they had very friendly relations.

regards,

Kash
