Websense and Network Appliance Collaborate to Launch EIM-Enabled NetCache Appliances
biz.yahoo.com
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2001--Employee Internet management (EIM) leader Websense Inc. (Nasdaq:WBSN - news) today announced it has teamed with Network Appliance Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, to offer a new line of EIM-enabled content delivery appliances.

Together, Websense and Network Appliance are offering customers a platform that eliminates redundant and unproductive Web traffic, while greatly reducing the load on the network.

Websense Enterprise v4.2, NetCache(TM) Edition, combines flexible, sophisticated Internet filtering software with high-performance, scalable NetCache content delivery solutions. By coupling Websense Enterprise with NetCache appliances, customers can boost network performance by caching frequently visited Web pages and removing unproductive, bandwidth-intensive content.

Employee requests to the Internet are checked with Websense's management application to ensure that the Web content is appropriate according to the customer's particular Internet access policy. This prevents the NetCache appliance from caching frivolous or non-work-related material, saving valuable cache space and increasing the speed of the network for all employees.

``The two products work hand-in-hand, demonstrating an alliance of best-of-breed companies,'' said John B. Carrington, Websense CEO. ``Websense software saves bandwidth, storage and productivity costs, while Network Appliance(TM) hardware speeds delivery and reduces the need for additional bandwidth.''

Websense Enterprise v4.2, NetCache Edition, provides the following features:

Flexible Filtering Options -- In addition to blocking and permitting access, Websense software lets organizations use a host of flexible management options, such as Postpone, Defer and Continue. This enables employees to postpone personal Web surfing until appropriate times, such as lunch, before or after work. Administrators can also permit employees to continue surfing sites they deem work-related or schedule time ``blocks'' of personal surfing per employee, per day.
Custom Reporting -- The companion reporting application to Websense Enterprise, Websense Reporter offers more than 50 reports detailing Internet access, including top 10 hits and top 10 bandwidth use for sites, categories, users and groups. Administrators can also schedule specific times to generate reports.
Comprehensive Websense Master Database -- The largest, most accurate database of sites in the Internet filtering category, the Websense Master Database consists of more than 2.2 million sites comprised of 400 million Web pages and is organized into more than 65 categories. The database is automatically and incrementally updated daily, with subcategories that allow finer control of Internet access policies.
Premium Groups -- Websense's Premium Group databases enable customers to manage additional productivity-draining or high-bandwidth Web content. PG I manages online advertisements, freeware/software download, instant messaging, online brokerage and trading and pay-to-surf sites. PG II allows managers to limit employee use of streaming or bandwidth-intensive content that can choke corporate networks, such as Internet radio, Internet telephony and others.
``Network Appliance content delivery solutions enable customers to utilize the content management features inherent in Websense software at the edges of their corporate networks, reducing network bottlenecks and saving bandwidth costs,'' said Amit Pandey, senior director of content marketing for Network Appliance. ``This collaboration allows our customers to reduce Web traffic and feel more secure that the content reaching their employees is the right content.''

The Websense and Network Appliance joint solution will be available in June 2001. As part of its rollout, both companies will launch joint marketing and sales efforts targeted primarily at enterprise customers. For more information, visit www.websense.com/netapp.html.

SB, Technically speaking, the way I see it currently is that NTAP has the short term potential to trade up to around $35.50. On the other hand if it breaks below $23.50 then we look to be heading lower again.
