Microsoft seems ever more uninterested in providing a platform on which software other than their own can be run. Your statement seems to agree. I think developers (outside Microsoft) will redirect their efforts to Linux and other alternatives of necessity as they are increasingly shut out of Windows. In the end, Microsoft's strategy will backfire on them because they will have an obsolete, closed, proprietary system. The rest of the world will have moved on.

It could be that Microsoft as "winner takes all," but all of WHAT?

JMHO.
