P4 is still slower and more expensive to boot.

Intel also had the foresight to make sure that all P4 users would be required to use RDRAM, and could not substitute mainstream low cost memory.

Perhaps the management of Intel was looking for a way to reduce shareholder value, with one of the most boneheaded decisions in the history of the industry?
