Balancing Greed & Fear. Would it be to cynical to think that the inexplicable recommendations hinted at in these reports are just methods to free up shares from the unknowing individual investor?

Lehman's analysis of 33 E&P's shows a cumulative QOQ growth in production of (-0.1%) over the last five quarters. Demand over the same period is reported to have grown 4.3% (EIA 02/2001). The difference drawn for NA storage.

Sequentially Lehman reports the following production growth for 33 E&P's -1.2%, -0.7%, -0.1% 0.3% , 1.6% growth ending Q1 2001. It looks like the bottom of the production improvement curve was Q3 2000.

The stock market is booming with poor news, most every form of media is talking about the energy shortage and recommending energy stocks. Oilmen have invaded the White House, gasoline marketers are hording $3's for signs, and OPEC is demonstrating reasonable control.

Seems we are on the brink of a fast trip up or down. For all the sellers this week, there were buyers who supported decent price levels. I wonder what people will be willing to pay this Wednesday morning and afternoon?

jim, I just read the report you linked. Then I looked at the weekly OSX chart with 30 week ma overlaid. For almost a year now the ma has gone sideways. That's distribution. stockcharts.com
[I realize that many here have profited from ST trades during this time]. I don't know whether the sideways movement will break to the upside or downside. So I'm staying out.
