In an April 18 commentary on SchaeffersResearch.com, I stated, "my market timing tools tell me we are in a bear market that has not put in its final bottom. But the 'information flow' I'm receiving from the market is that it wants to rally, perhaps in major fashion...we may be on the verge of just such a rally, to be led by the Nasdaq Composite (COMP)." In fact, the COMP rallied from 1923 when I posted that commentary to 2222 as of this writing.

Furthermore, I feel the COMP could rally further, perhaps to 2500, based on two factors. First, a 50-percent rally off the recent low of 1619.60 would take us to 2429, and 50-percent counter-trend rallies are fairly common in bear markets. Second, the "half-high" level off the COMP high of 5132.50 is at 2566. Just as this level provided major support until February 8, 2001, I would expect there to be significant resistance should it be approached on a rally.

But such bear market rallies tend to end as abruptly as they began. If I'm correct about this rally, I would expect there to be some major crowing from Wall Street strategists who've been cheerleading the Nasdaq throughout its near-70-percent decline. Furthermore, I suspect this rejoicing will become deafening, fanning the hopes of those who hung tough and attracting the maximum amount of sideline money to the tech sector before the next downleg.

Keep in mind that trading and timing based on scenarios such as this are dangerous. But it's one that makes sense given that it's unlikely that the bulls will ultimately be right though they may well be right for the short term.>>

RR: If you're interested in a vacation place along the coast of Florida, here's a pretty nice one...

I think it may accommodate Voltaire's entire porch of friends all at once <VBG>. We could all bring a few guests and have quite a party down in Palm Beach -- it would be even more fun IF THE BULL MARKET RETURNS IN FULL FORCE...Maybe Jimmy Buffet would stop over and do a little entertaining <G>....According to my younger brother (who used to be a real Parrot Head), Buffet has a nice pad down in West Palm Beach...Those entertainers have a rough life ya know -- sort of like some of the execs who run The Houses and the Big Hedge Funds...LOL.

Oh well, we should to count our blessings and look forward to an exciting week.

Best Regards,

Scott

BTW, the widow of the founder of one of the 2nd tier Houses (Cantor Fitzgerald) has a nice 'cost-effective' home on the market out in LA...

Then again, maybe you'd rather have a vacation place next to Bill Gates <VBG>...
